John Burton Advocates for Youth, I meet Governor Brown and John Burton
John Burton Advocates for Youth currently focus on three main goals
- They help foster youth across the state achieve their higher education goals and move on to fulfilling careers by engaging institutions to work together, sharing best practices, and advocating for policies that support foster youth in higher education.
2.They aim to reduce homelessness among current and former foster youth in California by constantly working to improve access to safe, affordable and supportive housing through the development of policy and technical assistance.
3. They work through advocacy, collaboration and training to ensure that all foster youth in care have access to the necessary physical and mental health services that are vital to their well-being and success.
Alongside the John Burton Foundation, I have been given the opportunity to advocate for critical legislation. I have provided testimony and spoke before policy committees in both the CA State Assembly and Senate. We have partnered to work on bills pushing for higher education for current and former foster youth. On this particular day I was give the opportunity to be a guest speaker at Johns 85th birthday/ GALA event where I was able to meet Governor Brown.
This is something I will add to my resume in HealthShack.
